About MetroAction
MetroAction is a non-profit community development organization dedicated to providing small business loans and business development assistance throughout northeastern Pennsylvania (NEPA). MetroAction’s lending, training and recognition programs are helping small businesses in northeastern Pennsylvania build the strength and independence that they need to be successful.
Our programs and resources help create jobs, increase the availability of quality child care and foster the entrepreneurial spirit that our region is known for. Many of the entrepreneurs that utilize our programs lack start-up capital and cannot save money fast enough to acquire the funding they need to finance their small business. MetroAction is an alternative, yet successful and comprehensive, resource for small business financing, small business assistance and business training.
Through our many programs, we are matching businesses with appropriate lending resources, providing hundreds of hours of business training and counseling and honoring small business success in our communities. Formed in 1977 to revitalize the local community, MetroAction is now a leading Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) that provides loans, training and counseling to help build small businesses throughout nine counties in NEPA. Our Board of Directors is committed to meeting the needs of the local communities that we serve.
Whether your business is in Scranton, Wilkes-Barre, Honesdale, the Poconos, Milford, Stroudsburg, Jim Thorpe, Pottsville, Hazleton or the many other communities in our service area, MetroAction’s programs can help you start smart and grow strong.
Who Is Eligible?
There is no typical MetroAction client. Our clients have all encountered similar obstacles to accessing small business financing – no credit history, damaged credit or needing a loan that does not meet the bank’s criteria. And, in today’s economic climate, MetroAction is helping businesses that never had a problem getting bank financing in the past. We fund all types of small businesses – from pre-start up to existing. MetroAction’s clients range from child care providers to restaurants and retail businesses to manufacturers and agricultural businesses.
MetroAction is the right fit for small business owners who:
Have a credit score of at least 500.
Have not have declared bankruptcy in the past 12 months
Have not had any late rent or mortgage payments in the past 24 months
Are up-to-date on all bills
Exhibit steady cash flow and the ability to support monthly loan payments
Can provide a cosigner, if needed
Our Service Area
MetroAction primarily services nine counties in northeastern Pennsylvania, including Carbon, Lackawanna, Luzerne, Monroe, Pike, Schuylkill, Susquehanna, Wayne and Wyoming. However, some of our programs can fund businesses in any Pennsylvania county.
